Duncan McNab talks Big Jim Anderson; Iago of the Cross

NSW DISCOVER VOUCHERS MAY BE USED FOR THIS EVENT - SEE SEE BELOW FOR FURTHER INFORMATION

Jimmy, an imposing Glaswgein and former Royal Marine, hair stylist and kiwi parking cop, arrived in the harbour city in the late 1950s as manager of a touring Maori show band. Sydney, and the Cross, were the perfect fit for Anderson and he and soon ingratiated himself into the city’s nightlife - and underworld. He managed Sammy Lee’s Latin Quarter, and worked at The Rex before becoming Abe Saffron’s lieutenant, running venues like the gloriously seedy Venus Room, strip clubs, and the Carousel - at the time of Juanita Nielsen’s disappearance. Jimmy remains the prime suspect, and he has form. A few years before he’d shot Donny ‘The Glove’ Smith dead as he left the Venus Room, but Anderson got away with murder. What Saffron, then the King of the Cross, didn’t know was his trusted mate wanted the crown, and would do anything to get it. When a hitman Anderson hired failed to kill Saffron, his Plan B was to turn informant. His work with the National Crime Authority was pivotal in Saffron being convicted and sent to prison on tax offences, then Anderson himself became the subject of a Senate Inquiry into informants and Anderson’s first class airfares and five star hotels came to an abrupt end.

Join Duncan McNab and Brandy in the story of Jimmy Anderson, a man described as a ‘callous, cunning and vindictive liar’ was literally towering figure in the Cross during its wildest days.

Duncan McNab is a former police detective, private investigator, investigative journalist and media adviser to government and the private sector. He is the author of 12 books with the latest, on the Ruby Princess, due out this summer. His previous work includes the phenomenally bestselling DEAD MAN RUNNING (with Ross Coulthart), OUTLAW BIKERS IN AUSTRALIA, and WATERFRONT. Duncan was a producer on the Kennedy and Clarion award-winning MURDER UNCOVERED series (7 Network) in 2017. In 2017 his book GETTING AWAY WITH MURDER won the Ned Kelly Award for Best True Crime. In the same year, his bestselling book on disgraced former detective and convicted murderer ROGER ROGERSON was shortlisted for the Ned Kelly Award for Best True Crime.
