Everything that glitters is often just glitter, and no where has seen more glitter than Sydney’s Oxford Street. It has been the home of Sydney’s queer community and plays host to the annual Sydney Mardi Gras. A stomping ground for young guys, drag queens and village people alike, Polly Petrie has been there amongst it for 48 years, and she sure has a few stories to tell.
Polly is one of Sydney’s most celebrated Drag Queen’s and has been entertaining the scene for the best part of half a decade. Having experienced the best and worst it has to offer; we’ll hear about dancing centre stage at Les Girls, to having meat pies and beer cans thrown at her as she celebrated the first anniversary of Mardi Gras. Polly will share her personal insights collected in a candid interview on stage at Dulcie’s in anticipation of this years Mardi Gras.
Through all the sequins and show tunes Polly comes to tell the story of what it’s like to live through a revolution, an epidemic and what it takes to get to where we are now. This is not one to be missed for anyone wanting to know their queer history and understand what life is like over the rainbow. We are very lucky to have such a local legend with us as he and Brandy walk through 48 years on Oxford Street.
