The Cross has been a hotbed of change that more often than not catapulted the nation into the future. As you would expect, Australia’s first strip club were born during the kings cross sexual revolution. Well before that however, the first and most enduring revolution that dragged the emerald city from overcooked lamb and grey vegetables was that of our hospitality. With Nazi’s poised to take Europe, the cross became home for emigres, bringing with them coffee culture, grand European dining and not so grand everyday pleasures like the schnitzel and pasta. We survived the US food craze in the early 80’s, the Cross was home to restaurants delivering stunning food forever. Places such as Bayswater Brasserie, Yellowbook, Au Chabrol and Mere Catherine, and Thai from David Thompson. In these illustrious food halls and drinking dens, was the people who often brought the spice and peppered the menu of Kings Cross.
